Let's Pick on Telephony

We present many computer science and IT papers here, such as Koala: Development of the Location-Identity Split, but let's pick on telephony a little. Ericsson T28s is regarded by many, as the first phone to be based on certain new technology and a unique design platform. The phone's exterior features a new, arched design, which creates a series of finely balanced contours. Its features include, not only its unique horizontal menu system, but voice-dialing, ringer profiles, and a button-activated flip.

As we know, telephony is the technology that is related to the electronic transmission of voice, fax or other information between remote persons using systems that have been traditionally associated with the telephone - a handheld device that contains both a speaker or transmitter and a receiver. However, it become rather challenging to differentiate telephony and telecommunication as the advent of computers have made the the transmittal of digital information over telephone systems and the use of radio to transmit telephone signals more seamless.

An assortment of hardware and software enables consumers to use the Internet as the medium of transmission for voice data. people who have free, or fixed-price Internet access, can take advantage of Internet telephony software that basically essentially provides free telephone calls for them anywhere in the world. Notwithstanding the fanfare and claims of such providers as YAK or Vonage, Internet telephony, as of today, offers inferior connections, compared with traditional direct phone connections.

Internet Telephony

For many years now, consumers have had access to many Internet telephony applications. Some, like CoolTalk and NetMeeting, are bundled with the most popular Web browsers such as IE. Others come as stand-alones. At times, the terms - Voice over the Internet (VOI) and/or Voice over IP (VOIP) are used for IP telephony.
